Progress through Public-Private Partnerships
The UO leads and participates in large-scale federal initiatives bringing together universities, industry, and government to solve regional and national challenges. These programs include NSF Regional Innovation Engines, Tech Hubs, and multi-institutional research centers requiring years of coordinated effort across diverse stakeholders.
Our role matters for industry. We've built relationships with state and federal agencies, other research institutions, and industry players positioned to participate in major initiatives. When opportunities arise that match your company's vision, we are ready to be your academic partner.
Tech Hubs
The U.S. Economic Development Administration's Tech Hubs program designates regional innovation centers driving economic growth in critical technology areas. The UO participates in initiatives aligned with Oregon's strengths in sustainable materials, advanced manufacturing, and environmental technologies, such as CorMic.
These hubs create pathways to federal funding, shared infrastructure, workforce development programs, and connections to regional supply chains. For companies working in Tech Hub focus areas, participation strengthens grant applications and opens doors to collaborative R&D projects.
Regional Innovation Engines
NSF Regional Innovation Engines combine university research capacity, industry expertise, and community resources to build innovation ecosystems addressing societal challenges. These engines provide translational research funding, shared facilities, workforce training, and market development support.
The UO brings expertise in materials science, sustainable design, bioengineering, and environmental solutions. We've demonstrated the ability to convene stakeholders across academia, industry, tribal nations, and government agencies around shared goals.
Collaborative proposals for federal funding
We actively seek collaborators for new federal funding opportunities. Whether you're interested in NSF Engineering Research Centers, DOE applied research programs, ARPA-E projects, or other multi-institutional initiatives, our research development team can help assess fit and structure competitive proposals. We bring proposal expertise, faculty networks, and the institutional capacity that strengthen applications. For industry, federal funding de-risks technology development and provides non-dilutive capital for long-term R&D.
